Coarse fishing Description

The Blunham Lake

This is a mature 2-acre lake surrounded by a fringe of reeds. The lake has 20 swims including one we are currently making accessible for the disabled. The lake has its own car park within 20m with the main car park and bait hut being about 500m away.

Trevor5The lake is stocked with a mixture of smaller coarse fish including: roach to 1lb, perch to 2lb, rudd to 1lb, tench to 6lb, bream to 4lb and carp now reaching 18lb.

This lake fishes well as the water begins to warm up, and is a good starter lake for juniors to be introduced to the sport. During the summer evenings the lake produces a lot of small tench, which have bred on in the lake on their own. Perch are also prolific during the summer months. This lake can be slow during the winter.

Average lake depth is 8ft down to 12 ft in places. Best fishing around the margins using small hooks (18's) and light line (2lb). We have recently introduced a boilie ban on this lake to ensure pleasure anglers can make best use of the water. Bigger carp can be caught on luncheon meat, sweetcorn or possibly dog biscuit off the surface.

37lb 8oz Pike Caught By Daniel Chiddel In January 2005

14lb Bream Caught By Mr Swanson In 2005, Has Been Equalled In 2006

8lb Tench

Dan37lbpikebThis is a 4-acre lake, which was stocked with a range of small coarse fish in the winter of 1998, and left to develop unfished for a year. Fishing on this lake started in 1999 and we were very surprised with the results. Most people were broken on light line and elastic, so be warned these small fish have grown considerably, as the lake records show.

Catches on this lake include carp to 25lb, many big bream including one to 12.5lb, pike to 21lb, as well as roach, rudd and perch. For the colder months we add 200 x12oz rainbow trout, which provide excellent sport when many of the other coarse fish are not catching. Please do not put trout in keepnets as they will not survive.

Night fishing is available on this lake but must be booked in advance as we limit night time numbers to a maximum of 10. Please book this in advance. A deposit of p10 per angler per night is required for Friday and Saturday night bookings.

Mixed Match Canal

Another new development at Manor Farm is the 23 peg match canal opened 18th June 2005. This canal is heavily stocked with home-grown carp to 7lb, bream, skimmers, roach, perch, rudd and tench. Initial results on the canal have given bags of between 40lbs and 100lbs fished on pellet or maggot. This canal is float only, no feeder, and can only be fished by prior arrangement or organised matches. It is restocked annually as required.

mixedbagmatch2005The average depth of the Canal is about 6 feet. Its 20m wide and fished in a staggered / herringbone formation. There is car park immediately adjacent to the Canal. You must check on availability, especially at weekends prior to fishing.

This is an ideal starter lake, giving children plenty of experience of catching small fish.
Cub groups and other similar organisations are welcome by prior arrangement.
