The trout lake at Manor Farm was first opened in 1992, and is now established as one of the top fisheries in the country. The lake covers 5 acres with depths ranging from 6 feet in the shallows on the south bank to 12 feet in the northeast corner. The lake has an abundance of natural fly life, especially damsels and pond olives. Dry fly fishing is usually good during the Spring and early Summer, with Daddy Long Legs continuing this trend into the Autumn. Fry imitations such as Cats Whiskers and other lures are good from October to April. The lake is listed as a Troutmaster water and we are members of the Association Of Stillwater Game fishery Managers.

Damsel Lake now operates a catch and release policy using barbless hooks only. This is available after your limit has been caught. We do not operate a sporting ticket only. From October 2006 catch and release will be a regular feature of the water during its open months. The lake will be closed annually from 1 June to 30 September. This is due to high water temperatures resulting in low oxygen levels; the trout during this time are not feeding well and are therefore very difficult to catch.

We stock with rainbows on a weekly basis throughout the main season and fortnightly through the winter months. Fish are stocked from 1lb 12oz to 17lb, with the majority averaging 2lb. Browns are only stocked annually depending on availability.

Manor Farm offers fly-fishing tuition on a monthly basis.

- from understanding the basics to a few more specifics for the experienced fisherman.



Enjoy a full day from 9am till approx 4.30 pm.

The morning’s tuition is then followed by an afternoon of guided fishing.

A 1-fish ticket per person, EA licence and all equipment are included in the price.



Groups of 3 people minimum, up to maximum of 6 people to one instructor.

Casting clinics and Junior tuition sessions can also be arranged - ask for more details.



Advance booking is essential. You need to bring your own hat, glasses and appropriate clothing and footwear.
