The Carp Lake

The Carp Lake at Manor Farm was first established in 1997. The lake is stocked with a range of Common, Mirror, leather and ghost koi Carp, which have all settled into the water well and are now increasing in size. We now estimate our stock to include about 20 x 20lb+ fish as well as two fish over 30lb. Average fish size is about 15lb, although the fish do breed annually in the Carp Lake making smaller single figure fish a possible problem in the late summer early autumn. These fish Brian Haze 34lb Common Carp Lake July 2006are generally netted out during the winter months.

The lake has one island and is approximately 4 acres in size and has an average depth of 7 feet, going down to 12 feet in the north-eastern bay. The shallower water is along the car park swims in the main car park. The water is always very clear, as the gravel bottom does not hold in suspension for very long. This means you can see the fish, however they can also see you!

The lake bottom is covered by a layer of weed about 4” deep, making popups a popular choice. Gravel bars do exist, but you need to find them and mark them with a marker float. As the weather warms the carp in this lake love cruising on the surface making floating dog biscuit an excellent choice, but be warned these fish know what’s going on and presentation has to be just right!

Night fishing is available on this lake but must be booked in advance as we limit night time numbers to a maximum of 10. Please book this in advance. A deposit of p10 per angler per night is required for Friday and Saturday night bookings.

The Winters Lake

Record on Winters May 06The Winters Lake was stocked with on-site reared carp including a 32lb common as well as many other 20's and a few in the top teens. In total 45 fish have been stocked in a lake of approximately 4.5 acres including 3 islands. The lake now contains at least 3 x 30’s; two commons and a mirror.

This lake is on a booking only basis with a limited number of anglers, allowing for more exclusive fishing, hence the price is slightly more than the other specimen lakes. Please book this in advance. A deposit of p10 per angler per night is required for Friday and Saturday night bookings.

The lake was established in November 2004 and has been landscaped, but it will take time for these trees to grow and the lake to mature making this lake very open.
Winters Lake has an average depth of about 9 feet with a deeper area in the north eastern corner going down to 12 feet. There is also a very shallow bay that is not permitted for fishing to attract wading birds.
